COMPEX HELPS ENGLAND CRICKETER, PAUL NIXON, REMAIN AT ELITE LEVEL

Since the late 80’s, former England International, Paul Nixon, has had a successful cricket career in the highly demanding roles of both wicket keeper and batsman. Having enjoyed regular recognition by the England selectors he now plays as specialist batsman for Leicestershire County Cricket Club.
Paul has always taken his general fitness seriously and this has allowed him to pursue his cricketing ambitions into his 40’s, despite a gruelling match programme. He is well known for his meticulous attention to detail in preparation for cricket (he’s known as ‘Mr Fitness’ in English cricketing circles). However, over the last 20 plus years squatting 700-800 times per day twice to three times a week has taken its toll resulting in numerous operations on his knees.
He is in no doubt that the unique qualities of the Compex mi-SPORT, which has been an important part of his regular routine this season, have helped him remain at Elite level. “Keeping my body in shape to play at Elite level has been made so much easier by my COMPEX. Because of its portability, it's with me 24/7 and has become part of my daily workout and massage routine. With my hectic schedule, I find it invaluable for both recovery following serious workouts and matches and for short, effective pre-match warm-ups.”
In early March 2011, when Paul suffered a knee cartilage injury in training at Grace Road, which required surgery on his left knee, Paul used this same thorough approach to his rehabilitation which might have forced a less determined sportsman to retire. He was told that he would be out of action for up to six weeks but with the new season starting in just four weeks, Paul faced a race against time. Through a combination of using rehabilitation facilities at neighbouring Leicester Tigers’ rugby club and specific Compex programmes, he made a rapid recovery and played in the season’s opening one day match against Glamorgan.

Never one to take the easy option Paul then elected to field at ‘short leg’ against Durham in early May. This position requires the fielder to squat for hours at a time. Squatting places a lot of stress on the knee joint and with little cartilage left to protect it, his knee inevitably reacted. This latest knee injury is putting his Compex to the ultimate test, but Paul said: “I’m convinced that the Compex, which I use every day, is the all-round solution to keep me performing at Elite level and is currently having a significant impact on my knee rehabilitation.”
